Editorial - McCain, Obama bank on Wisconsin

Winning Wisconsin gives candidates the bright glow of electability. That's because the Wisconsin primary is the closest thing to a general election as the primary season can deliver. It's easier to vote in Wisconsin. We allow same-day registration at the polls, and voters don't have to declare allegiance to a specific political party. That means independent voters like me, who couldn't stomach the idea of publicly identifying ourselves as a Republican or Democrat, have as much control as the party faithful in picking party winners. In fact, the largest segment of voters in Wisconsin 40 percent are those who consider themselves politically independent, a recent statewide poll of 600 residents suggests.

Do you really want me to be honest? the Belmont, Vt., native said. The 21st birthday, of course. Ive been waiting for it for so long.

As for Bleiler, shes been waiting for a shot at redemption for 12 months after Bright a 21-year-old Australian snuck in and spoiled her usual victory lap in front of her hometown fans.

The top qualifier last year, Bleiler posted the best opening run with a score of 91 then waited to see if anyone could top it. Bright, summoning the energy of the scores of screaming Aussie fans lining the pipe on, of all days, Australia Day followed with a second run for the ages.

She opened with a tricky air-to-fakie transfer, then swung a huge Cab (switch frontside) 720, followed by a massive McTwist two hits farther down the pipe.

Drug Treatment

Corticosteroids (commonly called steroids) are mainstay treatments for acute relapses patients with relapse-remitting MS. High-dose methylprednisolone given intravenously (IVMP) is typically administered for major relapse, often followed by oral prednisone for a few days. Steroids reduce inflammation in the central nervous system and may help suppress the immune system's attack on myelin and even improve electrical conduction.

Steroids, in general, do not improve the long-term course of the disease and can lose effectiveness if overused. They are not generally used for maintenance therapy. Some research, however, is reporting benefits from the use of pulsed administration of intravenous methylprednisolone. Such an approach typically administers the steroid daily for 5 days every 4 months for 3 years, then every 6 months for 2 years.

Laura Bush promotes healthy living

Kansas City, Mo. - In a rare break from tradition, first lady Laura Bush offered this week's national radio address to promote healthy living and heart-disease prevention.

"President Bush has handed the mike over to me," she said, according to a White House transcript of the address, which will air Saturday. "And today, I'd like to talk about something that's close to my heart - America's heart health."

Mrs. Bush is the ambassador for the Heart Truth, a campaign to educate women about the risks of heart disease and the steps to prevent it. She said the disease affects more than 80 million people in the U.S. and claims the life of one American every minute.

"Symptoms of a heart attack can be different in women than in men," she said. "Symptoms in women can include persistent fatigue, difficulty breathing, and a pain in the jaw or neck.

The Writers Guild of America may find out very soon that even if its members "won," they also lost. And even viewers who have managed to get through the writers strike with a minimum of entertainment interruptus will likely feel the fallout as well.

Why? Because change is coming. And for the next year, it probably won't be good for writers or viewers.

Even with Writers Guild of America members starting to return to work today the landscape for both this season and next is irrevocably altered. Sources within the industry say there's no rule book on how networks will get back to business - nothing that can be predicted accurately because studios and networks will make decisions independent of each other and strategies for series will vary.

But here's what's likely:

-- Several writers will probably get pink slips.
