July 2006
Dad did not sleep well the night before so most the time he would pack the car the evening before. Mom would try to let Dad get a couple of hours of sleep before the long drive from Ohio to the Cape. We would normally leave late and drive through the night and get to the Cape around noonish. We tried to stop once and that was a disaster as no one sleep and it was a waste of money. Even into my years of driving, we have done the same. Only now that it is just my wife and I we do try to find a place to stop over night to and from. Personally I would rather get there and have more time for the Cape. But I am learning to take things a little easier now that the kids are not along for the ride. The only night with more anticipation was Christmas Eve, we couldn’t sleep, we didn’t want to sleep, we just wanted to go.
Review: Curvy Widow' covers scant new ground
Curvy Widow: Solo comedy. By Bobby Goldman. Performed by Cybill Shepherd. Directed by Scott Schwartz. (Through March 9. Post Street Theatre, 450 Post St., San Francisco. 90 minutes. Tickets: $50-$75. Call (415) 771-6900 or go to www.ticketmaster.com.) "Curvy Widow Seeks Playmate," the voluptuously curvy Cybill Shepherd pronounces triumphantly from her seat at a laptop as the words roll out on a screen behind her at typing speed. Fresh from the end of a six-year affair with a married man, her one romance following the death of her husband of 27 years, the 57-year-old title character in "Curvy Widow" is taking the plunge into cyberspace dating - with grit, determination, intelligence and what seems meant to be an infectious sense of humor. It isn't very funny, though not for want of trying - hard.

Dalians ease to victory
ROCHDALIANS got back into action last weekend, after a three-week break, and swept to a 4-0 Lancashire and Cheshire League win over Hazel Grove. Both teams looked rather ring rusty, and the game lacked quality and cohesion for periods, but Dalians were clearly the better side on the day. The only decent moves in the first half came from Dalians who were rewarded on 22 minutes when Callum Whitehead won possession, cut inside, and drove home from 18-yard out. Another goal came early in the second half when Chris Ogunyode side-footed home to round off one of the best moves of the game. Dalians continued to press and made it 3-0 on 70 minutes when the hard working Armstrong cut in from the left and curled the ball into a top corner of the net.
